BuildingHealthX
BuildingHealthX needed to own organic search across NYC building violations and tenant services — a category dominated by the NYC government itself and legacy legal directories with decades of authority.

The Challenge
What We Were Up Against
NYC building violations is a category where the government's own HPD and DOB lookup tools absorb the head terms, and legacy legal directories have spent years accumulating backlinks. A new platform entering that market cannot compete for "building violations NYC" as a head term — the strategy had to find the long tail of specific service × neighbourhood queries where tenants and building owners were genuinely underserved, and dominate it at scale.
Strategy
How We Approached It
Programmatic Service × Location Architecture
We built a service × location matrix generating over 2,000 hyper-local, fully unique pages. Each page combined the platform's data — live violation counts, neighbourhood context, local HPD office references — with tenant-facing guidance, so Google saw genuine utility at every URL rather than templated thin content.
White/Teal Brutalist Redesign
The original dark theme underperformed on trust signals for a service-heavy category. We rebuilt the front end in Bebas Neue, Space Mono, and Inter with zero rounded corners and hard 2px borders, resulting in a distinctive, professional identity that improved time-on-page and reduced bounce across service pages.
Mobile Performance + Animation System
A full mobile responsiveness overhaul, paired with an IntersectionObserver and CSS keyframe animation system, delivered LCP under 1.5s on 4G. Core Web Vitals cleared green across the programmatic estate, which is what made the long tail indexable at scale.
Schema and Knowledge Hub
We layered Service, FAQ, and HowTo schema across every location page, and built a Knowledge Hub of long-form tenant guides that channelled authority into the programmatic pages. Press coverage was structured into an on-site press page to reinforce E-E-A-T for a YMYL category.
Outcome
The Results
Within 90 days of the redesign and programmatic rollout, BuildingHealthX was ranking top 3 for borough-level violation queries across Brooklyn, the Bronx, and Queens. Organic impressions grew 4.1x quarter-over-quarter, with the long-tail service × neighbourhood matrix now driving the majority of qualified lead enquiries — exactly the territory legacy directories had left open.
